Joint Board Meeting Minutes

 

Call to Order

The second Quarterly Joint Board meeting of The Most Worshipful King David Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and The Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter, Order of The Eastern Star was held on October 21, 2018 at the King David Grand Lodge in Los Angeles, CA. It began at 3:10pm and was presided over by The Most Worshipful Grand Master, John V. Phillips 33° Grand Master Phillips opening remarks expressed discouragement and disappointment at the lack of timely responses, lack of punctuality, and lack of interest being displayed by many in the Jurisdiction.

Approval of Minutes

Minutes were read by GM Phillips, and was properly moved by WM. Christopher Aaron, 33°and seconded by RW GSW Edgar Young, 32° that the minutes be adopted as read with necessary corrections.  Motion Carried

  • The Fish fry generated a gross total of $750, after receipts, the GL netted $575. It was decided that for the next Fish Fry (March 17, 209) each Worshipful Master will be present from 9-5pm and will be responsible for the instructions to their craft.  Sister of Love will be responsible for preparing and packaging the bread and cake prior to 9:00 A.M. Each WM will provide a report of how many dinners each member sold.
  • The Grand Master purchased a whole house fan and asked would the members of King David Grand Lodge assist with paying for it. M. Aaron, 33° donated $50, the WM agreed to make the announcement in their respective meetings and if willing would bring the funds at our next board meeting.
  • Grand Session is scheduled for June 21-24 aboard Carnival Cruise line, deposit deadlines are January 1, 2019
  • The GM asked would the jurisdiction be interested in getting wi-fi for the temple. The majority of the jurisdiction present did not seem to be in favor of this idea.
  • M Phillips of Sisters of love did not have the information for a possible camp site for future Grand Session, but has assured she will have the information at our 3rd quarterly communication.
  • Supreme Board Meeting will be held in Las Vegas, Nv July 18 – July 21. Standard Rooms are: $54.02 Thu & $120.04 Fri/Sat; Suites are $122.00 Thur & $178 54 Fri/Sat.  2 room suite are $142.48 Thu & $206.79 Fri/Sat. The Grand Master has asked a personal favor for all members of High Degrees to please attend.
  • John’s Day is December 9, 2018 at Greater New Zion MBC. W.M. Aaron has been asked to serve as MC.  Each WM is to collect $20 offering from their subordinates and anyone not in attendance will be fined $25 in addition to the $20 offering
  • We have a new tenants and potentially new members, it was agreed that now keys will be given until a minimum 6 month evalualtion period has passed.
  • The Grand Master asked and was granted permission to obtain a 501 C designation. The initial Cost is $275 filing fee and $75 preparation fee.  The Grand Master was authorized to use personal funds and obtain reimbursement when the Jurisdiction Account has adequate funds.

  • Dues reports were received by all subordinate bodies except Moses Lodge #4. The Grand Master informed the W.M. that a letter will be sent and response required. He also informed W.M. Aaron that a $50 late fee is now levied.

Announcements and Discussions

  • Our Next Quarterly Fish Fry will be held on March 17, 2019. Each member is responsible for 3 dinners, however you will not be required to pre-pay. The Grand Master would like to explore giving haircuts to students under 16 as a community outreach initiative.
  • John’s Day will be held December 9, 2018. Each member is to pay $20 for offering.  This is a mandatory event and all that miss will be assessed $25 in addition to the $20 offering.
  • Grand Session Cruise down payment is due by Jan 1, 2019 dates are June21-23;
  • Grand Master Philips encouraged us to cultivate our membership and new members. Keep in contact with each of them and make them feel welcome to our family.

The First Quarterly Joint Board meeting of The Most Worshipful King David Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and The Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter, Order of The Eastern Star was held on July 8, 2018 at the King David Grand Lodge in Los Angeles, CA. It began at 3:30pm and was presided over by The Most Worshipful Grand Master, John V. Phillips 33°

The Proclamation was read by Grand Secretary Elton Cooper and Prayer was given by Hon Tyrone Gregory 33. The Roll Call of the Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter Officers was read.

Grand Matron Celestina Cobbs was called from Labor to Refreshment on July 6, 2018. Services have not been arranged as of now.

Announcements and Discussions

  • Grand Master Phillips will be traveling to Houston for  their Annual Grand Sesion October 11-14.
  • August 3, fellowship outing to Summer Concert Series to see Rakim, coordinated by Bro. Reginald Taylor, 32°
  • August 19 fellowship outing to Smooth Summer Jazz coordinated by Bro. Reginal Taylor, 32°
  • Our Annual Picnic will be held on August 25, 2019 Ill. Taylor, Ill. Aaron, and Hon. Phillips will handle food purchasing however all Brothers will be called on for assistance, the $30 annual picnic assessment is due in to each Worthy Matron and Worshipful Master by August 12, 2019
  • Our Next Quarterly Fish Fry will be held on September 22, 2019 Moses Lodge #4 will be hosting. Each member is responsible for 3 dinners, however you will not be required to pre-pay. The Grand Master would like to explore giving haircuts to students under 16 as a community outreach initiative.

My Purpose Survey Results

Thank you to the 11 members that participated in this survey, with the exception of minor spelling corrections this is the exact replies that was given.  I hope we can learn something from it and apply that knowledge as applicable. I encourage you to expound on this in your individual meetings and encourage your Worshipful Master's and Worthy Matrons to share your thoughts with the Grand Lodge to further implement and improve this jurisdictions.

      • Family, being a part of something different that has meaning on life
      • Frat life
      • Networking and Education
      • to better myself
      • Seeing life and living within the strength of the lord and the people I will love as brothers and sisters.
      • The mystery and wanting to know is what caused me to join
      • To make a difference in my community.

      • A Brother came up to me and told me I can be a better person. Meet other people.

  1. What can we do to increase membership?
  • Need too host more social events that attract a younger members
  • Teach more
  • Be Seen more
  • Stay true in what we believe in about the Lodge and the chapter. Speak the true in loving everyone as one. Show others we believe in whom are is good people and not what they see or think is being in our organization.
  • More charity work put out into the community
  • Educate the members on the work.
  • Bring in Younger people, do some community work, have a purpose all together

  • Updating the way we do business.
