Joint Board Meeting Minutes

Call to Order

The third Quarterly Joint Board meeting of The Most Worshipful King David Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and The Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter, Order of The Eastern Star was held on January 13, 2019 at the King David Grand Lodge in Los Angeles, CA. It began at 3:10pm and was presided over by The Most Worshipful Grand Master, John V. Phillips 33°. Prayer was offered up by GM Phillips as we officially began.

Minutes were read and was properly moved and seconded by to be adopted as read with necessary corrections.

Grand Masters Address

GM gave well wishes as we entered the New Year. We did grow and we are continuing to grow, and gratitude was expressed for all who continue in this Masonic journey as the head cannot do it without the body and vice-versa. With that, the importance of accountability is prioritized more. Consistency and proficiency also needs to be practiced as we do more things to be seen in a positive aspect to continue to grow.

We were blessed to add A subordinate Lodge (Ellite Lodge#5) and Chapter (Queen Electa #1) to King David GL and Queen of Sheba GC.  Applications were accepted and installed January 7th, 2019

Moses Lodge #4 nor Son’s of Royal # 2 had reports presented, each W.M. was thus fined $50 per the by-law #51 Grand Lodge Penalty

Announcements and Discussions

·         Lodge Repairs. A whole house fan was purchased for the upcoming summer season. Cost was under $1000. Controls Setup to prevent utility waste will be tasked by RW GT Ill. Egans, 32°,  RW Dep GM Salazar, 32° in coordination with RW GSW Young, 32°. We also received trash complaints, moving forward we will remove any trash from our events.

·         New Tenant Keys. MW MT Zion/Daughters of Zion under GM Tillman became new tenant of the temple under which a 2 month probation period will be implemented before keys will be given. Until then W.M. Hollinshed and R.WBro Young volunteered to open the lodge 2nd and 4th Saturdays. In April we will revisit key possession with the question of requiring an assessment fee.

·         Bathroom Remodeling. Light remodeling has been started by our tenants (filling the gaps of baseboards) in what the amount of $150 rent (under no objection from jurisdiction) will be deducted until payment of repairs is met. All improvement will be ran by GM of course

·         Subordinate Meetings. GM Phillips is requiring each Worshipful Master and Worthy Matron to turn in a monthly report of agenda for each meeting (3 min since we at least meet once a month)

·         Red Book GM Phillips established a Red Book which will keep any members delinquent of dues or fines. From this suspensions and Withdrawals will be made to those in the rear.

St John’s Day Fine- Ill. Raymond James,32°; Ill. Trevar Egans, 32°; Ill. Reginald Taylor,32°; Ill. Chad Martz, 32°; Ill. Christian Crandle, 32°; and Bro. Loren Bernard.

Pending Suspension- Raymond James Suspension Letter will be drafted as appointed by GM Phillips 33°

·         Grand Session Cruise Video was shown to Jurisdiction displaying fun and fellowship we had.  Full payment for upcoming Grand Session is due April 22 for the traveling dates of June21-23 upon Carnival Inspiration.  Those requires unable to attend please plan to pay fine accordingly. Those who are last minute please reach John Phillips of Seth Lodge Planning as of Jan 28 there were 19 rooms on hold with a cutoff date with a financial penalty.

·         Sis Randolph announced her expertise in photography and Event promotions.  She will be assisting the Grand Lodge Secretary Ill. Elton Cooper, 32° in creating flyers & invitations for future events as well as being an on-site photographer in which we can update our website. Sis Randolph has a studio and welcomes any business opportunities such as modeling, couples, prom, and family pictures to excel her craft.

·         Supreme Board Meeting will be held in Las Vegas, NV July 18-21 2019

·         Grand Master Philips encouraged us to cultivate our membership and new members. Keep in contact with each of them and make them feel welcome to our family. LET’S PERFORM WHAT WE PORPOSE TO DO!

The second Quarterly Joint Board meeting of The Most Worshipful King David Grand Lodge, A.F. & A.M. and The Queen of Sheba Grand Chapter, Order of The Eastern Star was held on October 21, 2018 at the King David Grand Lodge in Los Angeles, CA. It began at 3:10pm and was presided over by The Most Worshipful Grand Master, John V. Phillips 33° Grand Master Phillips opening remarks expressed discouragement and disappointment at the lack of timely responses, lack of punctuality, and lack of interest being displayed by many in the Jurisdiction.

  • The Fish fry generated a gross total of $750, after receipts, the GL netted $575. It was decided that for the next Fish Fry (March 17, 209) each Worshipful Master will be present from 9-5pm and will be responsible for the instructions to their craft.  Sister of Love will be responsible for preparing and packaging the bread and cake prior to 9:00 A.M. Each WM will provide a report of how many dinners each member sold.
  • The Grand Master purchased a whole house fan and asked would the members of King David Grand Lodge assist with paying for it. M. Aaron, 33° donated $50, the WM agreed to make the announcement in their respective meetings and if willing would bring the funds at our next board meeting.
  • Grand Session is scheduled for June 21-24 aboard Carnival Cruise line, deposit deadlines are January 1, 2019
  • The GM asked would the jurisdiction be interested in getting wi-fi for the temple. The majority of the jurisdiction present did not seem to be in favor of this idea.
  • M Phillips of Sisters of love did not have the information for a possible camp site for future Grand Session, but has assured she will have the information at our 3rd quarterly communication.
  • Supreme Board Meeting will be held in Las Vegas, Nv July 18 – July 21. Standard Rooms are: $54.02 Thu & $120.04 Fri/Sat; Suites are $122.00 Thur & $178 54 Fri/Sat.  2 room suite are $142.48 Thu & $206.79 Fri/Sat. The Grand Master has asked a personal favor for all members of High Degrees to please attend.
  • John’s Day is December 9, 2018 at Greater New Zion MBC. W.M. Aaron has been asked to serve as MC.  Each WM is to collect $20 offering from their subordinates and anyone not in attendance will be fined $25 in addition to the $20 offering
  • We have a new tenants and potentially new members, it was agreed that now keys will be given until a minimum 6 month evalualtion period has passed.
  • The Grand Master asked and was granted permission to obtain a 501 C designation. The initial Cost is $275 filing fee and $75 preparation fee.  The Grand Master was authorized to use personal funds and obtain reimbursement when the Jurisdiction Account has adequate funds.

  • Our Next Quarterly Fish Fry will be held on March 17, 2019. Each member is responsible for 3 dinners, however you will not be required to pre-pay. The Grand Master would like to explore giving haircuts to students under 16 as a community outreach initiative.
  • John’s Day will be held December 9, 2018. Each member is to pay $20 for offering.  This is a mandatory event and all that miss will be assessed $25 in addition to the $20 offering.
  • Grand Session Cruise down payment is due by Jan 1, 2019 dates are June21-23;
  • Grand Master Philips encouraged us to cultivate our membership and new members. Keep in contact with each of them and make them feel welcome to our family.

The Proclamation was read by Grand Secretary Elton Cooper and Prayer was given by Hon Tyrone Gregory 33. The Roll Call of the Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter Officers was read.

  • Grand Master Phillips will be traveling to Houston for  their Annual Grand Sesion October 11-14.
  • August 3, fellowship outing to Summer Concert Series to see Rakim, coordinated by Bro. Reginald Taylor, 32°
  • August 19 fellowship outing to Smooth Summer Jazz coordinated by Bro. Reginal Taylor, 32°
  • Our Annual Picnic will be held on August 25, 2019 Ill. Taylor, Ill. Aaron, and Hon. Phillips will handle food purchasing however all Brothers will be called on for assistance, the $30 annual picnic assessment is due in to each Worthy Matron and Worshipful Master by August 12, 2019
  • Our Next Quarterly Fish Fry will be held on September 22, 2019 Moses Lodge #4 will be hosting. Each member is responsible for 3 dinners, however you will not be required to pre-pay. The Grand Master would like to explore giving haircuts to students under 16 as a community outreach initiative.
